The Roxbury Soccer Club’s recreation program is designed to provide participants the opportunity to learn the game of soccer, the value of good sportsmanship and play with a sense of team, all in a fun and supportive environment.
The program offers options for players from 1st grade through high school, regardless of experience or ability. All players play at least 50% of each game. Please note, travel players are not eligible for the recreation program.
Our recreational program has both the fall and spring seasons. The fall season runs from early-September to mid-November and the spring season runs from early-April to mid-June. All teams practice once a week, with a target of 10 games each season. Recreation teams are coached by volunteer parent coaches. Team assignments and schedule will be available a week before the season begins. Cleats and shin guards are required for all players
Recreation Divisions:
D Division – 1st grade
-Professional trainers run all practices with coaches helping to facilitate
-Teams are co-ed and play 4v4 with no goalkeepers
-1-hour practices (typically from 6:00 to 7:00pm)
-48 minutes games (4, 12-minute quarters)
-Players use size #3 soccer balls
C Division – 2nd and 3rd grades
-Professional trainers run all practices with coaches helping to facilitate
-Boys and girls teams are formed and play 7v7 with goalies on a small-sided field
-90-minute practices (typically from 6:00 to 7:30pm)
-1-hour games (4, 15-minutes quarters)
-Players use size #4 soccer balls
B Division – 4th and 5th grades
-All practices and games are run by volunteer coaches
-Boys and girls teams are formed and play 9v9 on a small-sided field
-90-minute practices (typically from 7:00 to 7:30pm)
-1-hour games (2, 30-minute halves)
-Players use size #4 soccer balls
Division – 6th, 7th and 8th grades
-All practices and games are run by volunteer coaches
-Boys and girls teams are formed and play 11v11 on a full-sided field
-90-minute practices (typically from 7:00 to 7:30pm)
-70-minute games (2, 35-minute halves)
-Players use size #5 soccer balls
AA Division – High School aged players not affiliated with other teams (school or travel)
-Teams play in the Rockaway Valley League
-All practices and games are run by volunteer coaches
-Boys and girls teams are formed separately when numbers allow
Mites Program:
Our Mites program is specifically designed for our Pre-K and Kindergarten players. The program provides an introduction to soccer fundamentals and skills in an age-appropriate manner and is run by our training partner, Pre-K Kickers with parent coach volunteers helping to facilitate each session.
Mites runs for six weeks with a mid-September start for the fall season and a late April start for the spring season. Players will use size #3 soccer balls. Shin guards are required.
- Mini Mites/Pre-K (4-year-olds and players turning 4 during the season are also eligible) – is held on Saturdays from 11:00am to Noon
- Mighty Mites/Kindergarten – is held on Saturdays from 12:15 to 1:15pm
